Currently, the variety that is attracting the most attention on the Japanese wine scene is Albariño, which originates from Spain.
The variety has a distinctive fragrance and flavor, and is cultivated as a savior with excellent disease resistance, and the number of cases is increasing.
The owner, Kimura, was one of the first to recognize the appeal of this variety and has been a pioneer in Yamagata, releasing the first version in 2020.
Currently (September 2022), we are managing a 2.1ha field, the largest in Tohoku, using short-shoot cultivation. The gravelly red soil produces grapes that are overwhelmingly ripe, like ripe yellow peaches, honey lemons, and quince.
As production stabilizes in the future, a variety of Albariño varieties will likely be produced, depending on the harvest time and brewing method.
Albariño, which is born with passionate blood, aims to produce a wine that evokes the radiant midsummer sun.
